Towards the end of the 19th century, a Great American company was established in New York. With the eagle as its symbol, its goal was to soar high when it comes to providing excellent insurance service. More than a century later, it was able to achieve its goals and stayed true to its name. Great American Insurance Company has become one of the most trusted name when it comes to giving the best insurance to the American people.
Great American Life Insurance Company’s mission is to enable individuals and businesses manage financial risk. Its insurance products and services are designed to meet its customer’s specific and ever-changing financial risk exposure. Its vision is to deliver financial solutions that would fulfill its customer’s needs and dreams.
The company traces its roots in New York City when it offered its first policy on March 19, 1872. At the turn of the century, the company has become one of the most financially stable and respected companies in the United States too. By the early 1960s, its assets has exceeded $450 millions and it had already offices in 11 states in U.S. and in Canada. It was acquired by the National General Corporation in 1968 and has since moved to Los Angeles.
In 1973, Carl Linder merged his company, the American Financial Corporation with the National General, and acquired the majority of ownership of Great American. Its headquarters was then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. Great American, under a new management, focused more on specialty insurance and it became the flagship company of American Financial.
Being the flagship company of American Financial Group, it is a niche player when it comes to a number of specialty property and/or casualty markets. It provides insurance to a wide range of customers, from cattle ranches, adult daycare centers, to long-haul trackers. The firm also provides lenders, construction contractors, banks, and vehicle leasers with risk management and surety insurance products. Great American products also include crop insurance, professional liability coverage, marine and cargo insurance, alternative risk services, and worker’s compensation.
Great American Life Insurance Company is led today by S. Craig Linder as its president and chief executive officer, Charles Scheper as its chief operating officer and Christopher Miliano as its chief financial officer. For the fiscal year ending December 2008, Great American had a total sales of $1.778.8 million. The company has also received an A+ (Execellent) or higher rating from A.M. Best Company for 100 consecutive years. Its mother company, American Financial Group has been listed as one of the Fortune 500 companies.

The policies it has are of high quality but at a very competitive cost. That is why it only hires people who are talented, motivated, and energetic–– those who work with integrity and in an ethical, moral, and legal manner.
Today, Great American Insurance Company continues to grow but its commitment to providing quality insurance coverage and service to it customers remains and will remain the same.
