Insurance Institute of America

The Insurance Institute of America or commonly called as IIA is classified as a non-profit organization which offers professional certification and educational programs to persons in the liability and property insurance business. On January 1, 1997, the IIA signed an arrangement together with the Chartered Insurance Institute of Great Britain, Ireland, and the Insurance Institute of Canada, in order to establish the said institute to global insurance education. There are other related courses in terms of this insurance institute such as ARM 54 – Essentials of Risk Management, ARM 56 – Essentials of Risk Financing, GEI 203 – Global Environment of Insurance, ARe 141 – Principles of Reinsurance, Insurance Essentials CD-ROM, Intro to Risk Management, ARM 55 – Essentials of Risk Control, ARe 142 – Reinsurance Practices and ARe 141 – Principles of Reinsurance.

Some of the above-mentioned institutes have life, property, health and liability programs. While others have already specialized one or another, some offers supplemental learning in form of lectures, seminars, and specialty courses that may complement to their corresponding designation programs or professional certificate.

Majority of institutes have several highly qualified, experienced, and trained instructors. While being hired in another capacity in the industry, these institutes might be available for short term teaching arrangements or ad-hoc. Inquiries concerning the related needs are highly welcomed by such instructors. Some current members of the Institute for Global Insurance Education (IGIE) are the following:

• Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance
• Insurance Institute of Singapore
• Insurance Institute of Switzerland
• Korea Insurance Institute (KII)

• Taiwan Insurance Institute

In terms of membership, the three organizing institutes like the Insurance Institute of Canada, the Chartered Insurance Institute of Great Britain and the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) are the main founders of IGIE. Membership in IGIE is limited only to some organizations that maintain, create, deliver, or develop risk or insurance management education curriculum, courses, and certifying examinations to insurance, financial services workforce, and risk management. The IGIE consists of members categorized as either academic or affiliate members.

However, members with prospective outlook may be invited to an application membership. This kind of membership is being reserved or maintained for national insurance institution and/or organizations that are often referred as the examining institutes and their alumni or graduate organizations all over the world. For affiliate membership, this kind of membership is being reserved for some other organizations and institutions which are not defined as academic members or members. For academic membership, this kind of membership is for universities and colleagues all over the world which offer risk and insurance management courses. The organizations are invited to apply for a set of membership by submitting and completing a membership application.
