The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is a United States-based interest group and non-governmental organization established 52 years ago by Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus in response to the growing numbers of American senior citizens. It provides additional support to its members by influencing various companies to offer affordable and quality products that can aid them such as car rental discounts, health insurance, home and auto insurance, travel packages, credit card, pharmacy services and discount, alternative health services, legal support, and even long-term care insurances. AARP also offers quality and safety control over these services.

It was in 1958 when retired teachers were in need of health insurance and Dr. Andrus, aware of this, stood up and got himself to action. Since then, with his determination and noble vision, the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA) came to life; this eventually evolved into today’s most renowned AARP. AARP started to offer membership exclusively for retirees only, but as the years passed, it also offered its services to future retirees.

Today, AARP continues to provide quality service made possible by its top employees and staff led by chief executive officer A. Barry Rand, State Operations executive vice president Hop Backus, chief communications officer Kevin Donnellan; chief financial officer Robert Hagans, Jr., chief people officer Ellie Hollander, AARP Foundation’s president Jo Ann Jenkins and chief operating Officer Thomas Nelson, AARP’s Services, Inc.’s president and CEO John Wider.

What make AARP special among the other companies are its quality services, superb products, and exceptional discounts in terms of traveling, health and insurance products, and financial services.

Great discounts – this is what AARP promises to its clients. Members can enjoy shopping and groceries with big price cuts. In terms of travel benefits, the company offers car rentals, cruises, vacation packages, hotels, and even tours that are made affordable for its members. On the other hand, health products can be enjoyed by members by paying less for prescriptions, eye care, fitness memberships, and other health and beauty products and services. It also offers usual insurance policies that can provide outstanding protection to its members’ precious properties. Lastly, the company renders financial services such as giving pieces of advice for credit card and retirement planning that will fit its client’s lifestyle and choices.

Aside from services, products and discounts being offered by AARP, the company also offers various programs and resources that members can participate in such as various events and celebrations, community services, charity works, publications, and other advocacies.

In terms of making its members updated with the company’s current events as well as the country’s events, AARP publishes its own magazine both virtually and in print. The magazine includes current AARP news, reports, and research.

Currently, AARP continues to reach out to people and operates in more than 50 states and countries all over the world.
