Country Life traces its history to 1925 as a fire and lighting insurance. In 1926, it started offering crop hail and farm equipment insurance. A year after, it began providing auto insurance, and, in 1929, life insurance. The company moved its office from Chicago to Bloomington in 1960, then opened its 24-hour customer service center.

In its eight-decade history, Country Life has had purchased and had formed alliances with different companies: Mid-America Fire and Marine Company in 1964, Northwest Farm Bureau in 1986, Middlesex Mutual Assurance Company in 1998, Holyoke Insurance Company in 2000, and Cotton State Insurance Group of Atlanta in 2005.
