“Do unto others what you would like others to do unto you.” We may have heard of this principle so many times already. This is the Golden Rule and for centuries, it has provided many of us the guidance that we need. But there is another Golden Rule that also provides millions of Americans with guidance and service when it comes to their insurance needs: Golden Rule Insurance Company.

Golden Rule was founded by husband and wife Michael Andrew and Mary Rooney in Lawrence, Illinois in 1940. The company began operating in the basement of the Andrew’s home. The company grew rapidly, receiving its first A (Excellent) rating from A.M. Best in 1985. In the 1990s, it has been ranked among the top 50 Life-Health performing companies by Wood Group for eight consecutive years. In 2003, it became part of the United Health Group. It currently has two main offices in Lawrenceville and Indianapolis, Indiana.

Today, as part of the United Health One brand, Golden Rule, together with affiliated companies, offers health insurance products for both individuals and families in 40 states and the District of Columbia. Golden Rule offers copay plans, health savings account plans, high deductible plans, basic plans, and insurance for the self-employed. It also has short-term medical coverage for individuals who are in between jobs and/or working as seasonal employees.

Golden Rule’s HSA is suited to families that are interested in one-calendar year deductible plans. This is also ideal for those who want to save money on their monthly premiums and taxes by exchanging low deductible for a higher deductible insurance. On the other hand, its copay plans are ideal to those who are interested in copay benefits for routine healthcare expenses. This is also a good plan for families with children who have regular visits to their doctors and for adults who want copay benefits for their preventive care and prescription drugs. Lastly, it has the high deductible plan that is suited to those people who would like to have control on how their money are spent for their healthcare. This is also good for families that are interested in one calendar year deductible plans.
