Patriot General Insurance Company is a property and casualty insurer located in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Headed by Dale Schuh as president, Patriot General is among the 15 companies that make up the Sentry Insurance Group. The Sentry group provides a variety of life, personal, and commercial insurance products through more than 7,900 independent agencies. Patriot General offers private passenger automobile liability, auto physical damage, commercial auto liability, workers’ compensation, allied lines, fire, commercial multi peril, product liability and other minor amount of lines. In 2005, its workers’ compensation and private passenger auto liability accounted for over two thirds of all direct written premiums where approximately one half came from the states of Georgia and Wisconsin.

Sentry Insurance, Patriot General’s parent company, was founded in 1904 by members of the Wisconsin Retail Hardware Association, now the Midwest Hardware Association, to supply insurance for its members. It was originally called Hardware Mutual. Currently, it has assets of more than $10 billion, annual premiums of more than $2 billion, and policyholder surplus of more than $3 billion.
