Peoples Benefit Life Insurance Company is a private insurance provider located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Headed by Marilyn Carp as president, Peoples Benefit sells a range of fixed, variable and immediate annuity plans through independent agents and brokers. Craig Dean Vermie and Martha Ann McConnell join Marilyn Carp in the company board as secretary and treasurer, respectively.

The company is licensed to operate in all states (except New York, where it is an accredited reinsurer) and in the District of Columbia. Peoples Benefit has provided insurance since 1920, with presently more than $10 billion of insurance in force. It has assets of $15.5 billion in 2006 alone.

The company received a rating of AA+ or very strong from Fitch. These reflect the current opinion of the relative financial strength and operating performance of Peoples Benefit.

In October 1, 2007, Peoples Benefit merged with Monumental Life Insurance Company.

Monumental Life, the first life insurance company in Maryland, is also a member of the AEGON Insurance Group.

Peoples Benefit is also dedicated to the community, giving time, abilities and energy in doing charitable efforts. In 2001, AEGON employees made a $250,000 donation to supply college scholarships for children of 9/11 victims, including the individuals in the U.S. Armed Forces who died in the War on Terror. In addition, in 2004, AEGON Foundation matched $250,000 contribute by workers for tsunami aid. AEGON Foundation moreover, pledges to multi-year support of Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation’s “Race for the Cure.”
