The Shelter Insurance Company is a mutual insurance company established and founded in 1946 under the name MFA Insurance. The Company served as the insurance subsidiary of the Missouri Farmers Association Incorporated. In 1981, the name was changed to Shelter Insurance following MFA’s popular slogan: “MFA is your shield of shelter”.

The Shelter Insurance Company is headquartered in Columbia, Missouri and currently operates in the states of Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Originally specializing in providing automobile insurance to Missouri residents, Shelter Insurance now offers and provides multiple insurance lines with several selections including, Auto, Life, Marine, Casualty and Direct Property insurance to all 14 states it operates in. The company has become one of the insurance industry’s leaders, working hard to become one of the most financially sound and successful insurance groups in the country.

The Shelter Insurance Group of Companies include the Shelter Financial Bank, Shelter Reinsurance Company, Shelter Life Insurance, Shelter General Insurance and the Shelter Mutual Insurance employing more than 2,000 professionals spread throughout numerous locations in the country. The Company’s affirmations and ratings reflect its well established regional market presence, reasonable underwriting power, conservative reserving beliefs and reliable net investment income.

The Shelter Insurance’s key corporate personalities include its Chairman, Donald “Don” Duello and David Moore, President and Chief Executive. Jerry French is the Executive Vice-President, Treasurer and Assistant Secretary. Don Northway serves as the Vice-President and Anna Hargis is the Director for Advertising.
