National Security is licensed to write insurance in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The company was licensed as a property insurer and incorporated as Urbaine Insurance Company on 1973. It was originally owned by subsidiaries of Societe Centrale L’Union des Assurances de Paris, France (UAP). The company became a licensed life insurer on May 1973, changing its name to Urbaine Life Insurance Company. Its initial resources of $4,061,574, consisting of common capital stock of $1,000,000 and paid in and contributed surplus of $3,061,574, were made available through the sale of 10,000 shares of common stock. On 1977, the company changed its name to Urbaine Life Reinsurance Company. On 1994, this prestigious company changed its name to the First ING Life Insurance Company of New York. Security Life of Denver Insurance Company, the former parent of the company, entered into a stock purchase agreement with Security Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York, Ohio National Financial Services and SMON Holdings, Inc. on 2001 to sell the company to SMON. After achieving regulatory approval for the sale on January 3, 2002, the deal was closed on January of the same year.
